University of San Carlos
The University of San Carlos dubbed as the Premier University in the South is the oldest school in the Philippines and one of the oldest catholic schools in Asia. This Roman Catholic University was established by Spanish Jesuits in 1595 and is now run by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) since 1935. The University is named after St. Charles Borromeo. Its present University President is Fr. Dionisio Miranda, SVD. The institution offers basic education, undergraduate and graduate courses. Its students and alumni are dubbed as Carolinians.
It has four different campuses located in Cebu – the Main Campus at P. del Rosario St., the South Campus (formerly known as the Girls High School) at J. Alcantara St., the North Campus (formerly known as the Boys High School) at Gen. Maxilom Ave., and the Talamban Campus at Nasipit, Talamban. The South and North Campuses are for the basic education stage and the Main and Talamban Campus are for the undergraduate and graduate courses.
University San Jose Recoletos
The University of San Jose – Recoletos, formerly known as Colegio de San Jose – Recoletos was founded in Cebu by the Order of Augustinian Recollects in 1947. It has evolved from a small institution to being one of the best schools in the province. Presently, the University is chaired by Rev. Fr. Enrico Peter A. Silab, OAR.
It has three campuses – the main campus along Magallanes St., the Basak Campus at Cebu South Road, Basak, and the newly-built Balamban Campus at Arpili, Balamban. It also basic education, undergraduate and graduate courses.
Cebu Normal University
Cebu Normal University is one of the oldest educational institutions in the province. It was established as a provincial normal school in 1915, became an independent institution in 1924, a chartered college in 1976, and finally became a university in 1998. Currently the University President is Marcelo T. Lopez.
It has three campuses – the main campus in Osmeña Boulevard, and the other two campuses in Medellin and Balamban. It offers basic education and college courses.
Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion
Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion is a private Catholic school that offers basic education that began in 1880. Their grade school is for boys and girls while their high school is exclusively for girls. It has two campuses – CIC Main and CIC Mandaue.
Don Bosco Technology Center
Don Bosco Technological Center is a Catholic Salesian School that offers complete basic education and college courses. The teachings and values taught in this all-boys school is patterned through the teachings of St. John Bosco, their patron saint. It is located at Pleasant Homes Subd. Punta Princesa, Cebu City. Their present rector is Fr. Eugenio G. Maglasang, SDB.
University of the Visayas
University of the Visayas was founded by the late Don Vicente Gullas in 1919 and is now billed as the first university in Cebu. Their current University President is Atty. Eduardo Gullas, D.P.A. The University has eight campuses – the main campus at Colon St., the laboratory high school in Pardo, Gullas Medical Center in Banilad, and the other campuses in Punta Engaño, Lapulapu City, Mandaue, Toledo, Dalaguete, Minglanilla, and Compostela. It offers basic education and college courses.
University of Cebu
University of Cebu was established in 1964 and is currently headed by Atty. Augusto W. Go. It has four campuses – Main Campus at Colon St., Banilad Campus, UC-METC Campus at Alumnos St., Mambaling and UC-LM(Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue) Campus near the Marcelo Fernan Bridge. They offer basic education and undergraduate studies.
Cebu Doctors’ University
Cebu Doctors’ University located at Mandaue City, Cebu is a private medical university which was founded in 1975. It’s one of the first nursing colleges in Cebu. It only offers undergraduate and graduate programs. CDU was declared as a university in 2005, it is the only school in the Philippines which was declared as a university without offering basic education. Their current University President is Dr. Potenciano Larazzabal.
